I needed a good nickname. Something that was simple. Something that doesn’t actually mean anything so that the meaning could grow alongside with the name. And the name definitely needed to be unique.
Well my daughter when she was two years old was once drawing this image that now could be seen on the top. I have slightly edited the original since it was made using a kids drawing board. I needed to take a picture of it to keep it safe. The picture itself is quite faithful to the actual drawing, all the lines are as they where. The color is changed to make it pop up a little better.
So when she was finished doing her drawing she looked at me and I asked her if the drawing was ready. Without any hesitation or lack of courage she immediately answered “Yes!”. I was really impressed because she was so sure about her opinion. Then I said to her: “Wow, it’s really nice… but what is it?”. I was curious about what she had imagined during her creative process. Again she immediately answered me without even blinking her eye: “Vartsia!”.
So to me the name Vartsia represents all those important things that are needed in software development: speed, vision, creativity, decision making, simplicity, courage and passion for the thing you are working on. (Drawing with the drawing board was really a big deal to my daughter at that time.) So when I am struggling with my projects, I think what the name Vartsia represents and just push my self to put a little more force into the making. 🙂
